5 Houston Happenings for Cinco de Mayo & Derby Day
This year, Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby both fall on the same day! How exciting is that? For those that are looking to celebrate one or both of these events, here's a list of 5 Cool Houston Happenings that you should have on your radar.
- Brennan's of Houston
- On Saturday, from 11am – 5:30 pm, Brennan’s invites dapper gentlemen and lovely ladies to gather in The Courtyard Bar for a toast to the races. Guests are encouraged to dress in their weekend best, and those wearing Derby-style hats will receive a complimentary 'What's in the Shaker' cocktail. In addition to a featured Sterling Classic Mint Julep (served in a traditional silver julep cup) Brennan’s will offer the Mint Julep Moderne (served up, in a martini glass) as well as a selection of Derby-inspired Southern fare for $9.
- The Patio on Richmond
- The Patio at The Pit Room on Richmond is offering $5 margaritas, $5 Mint Juleps, and $3 tacos in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and Derby Day. Also, they'll have crawfish for $7.95/lb or 3 lbs for $20. A good time on The Patio awaits!
- The Cottonmouth Club
- Head on over to The Cottonmouth Club for Cinco de Mayo and enjoy $6 specialty cocktails including the Maybe Memphis, Maybe Mexico Spicy Paloma (Puebla Viejo Tequila, Fresh Lime, Grapefruit Soda, Spicy Stuff, Pinch of Salt) and stick around for Kentucky Derby cocktails including a Tequila Julep!
- Etta's Kitchen Sucker Free Supper Club
- Celebrate Cuatro de Mayo with Etta's Kitchen and Eat TwoTweleve on Friday featuring a special dinner menu inspired by Nopalito: A Mexican Kitchen, the first cookbook by chef Gonzalo Guzman. Enjoy recipes from his famed Nopalito, expertly crafted cocktails, and classic hip hop by DJ Good Grief. - FM Kitchen & Bar
- The Washington-area bar will have Kentucky Derby & Cinco de Mayo food and drink specials all day long. Guest can expect to enjoy $5 Tequila Juleps and a “Kentucky Hot Brown Breakfast Taco”- turkey, bacon, Mornay sauce, eggs- Chef Ryan Hildebrand drew inspiration from The Brown Hotel in Louisville where the Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich was created.
